Aymie McKesson...

...in her own words.

As long as I can remember I have loved glass.  From beer bottles to the tiny little scenes in an Orient and Flume paperweight, I knew it was for me.  It wasn't until my early twenties that I found the torch and lamp working became my greatest love.  For years I spent hours in my studio each day, but never picked it up as more than a hobby.  In the winter of 2006 I went to work as a full time glass artist for the very first time.  I feel blessed to be able to make a living doing what I love.  Most of my time is spent making pipes, a choice I once struggled with.  Not because I had any feelings about the pipes themselves, I just hadn't "found my voice" in the glassblowing world yet.  Nothing I made was interesting enough to keep me happy, and I blamed that on the pipes.  In the last two years I have been given incredible gifts by friends in my line of work that have forever changed my career.  I was able to find my path.  Now, don't get me wrong, I love to make jewelry and plenty of other stuff, but I am proud to be a piper.  There is amazing talent among the artists in this particular facet of glassblowing and I am proud to be rising up amidst such greatness.

Most of my inspiration comes from nature and my love of human interaction.  Love and Mother Earth and some good music...what more does anyone need?  I was born in Houston and raised in the Hill Country...don't know that I will ever leave Texas.  My love of fire and molten earth completes my life when you throw in a little Llano river water, sunshine, and a nice breeze.  Elementally and fundamentally balanced.  Life is good y'all.
